Infrared Gu Shu Hong Red Tea Coin (古樹紅幣, Gǔ Shù Hóng Bì, "Ancient Tree Red Coin") - Gu Shu Hong simply means Ancient Tree Red. Nannuo Mountain is famous for having an abundance of ancient trees, some of which are estimated to be as old as 800 years. This tea is made from ancient trees on Nannuo Mountain that have been processed into a distinctive shài gān hóng chá 曬乾紅茶 ("sun-dried red tea"). This technique involves gently massaging the leaves (揉捻, róu niǎn) and allowing them to wither and oxidize, alternating between sun and shade, to achieve complete oxidation before the leaves dry out completely. It's a delicate process that requires constant attention, but the resulting fragrant red leaves convey the unalloyed character of the tea, because there was no cooking involved. When applied to the prized ancient tea tree leaves, this process captures, in a very naturalistic way, the full expression of the plant.

This tea coin includes 7g of pressed tea. The base color of the wrapper is red, indicating that it is a Red Tea. The ring and bat are gold, indicating that this tea is made from Gǔ Shù 古樹 ("Ancient Tree") leaves. This means that all of the leaves that went into this tea come from trees that are at least 100 years old.

    Surprised

I really found this tea to have a great qi, perhaps it was because I tried it on an empty stomach, but it seemed to have a stronger qi than the other red teas I've tried. It also had excellent flavors that are congruent with most hong cha. Forgive the simplicity of the review as I'm still new to the world of tea, but the qi of the tea is what really stood out to me personally.

I prefer other the other compressed red teas, but I found this one to still be enjoyable. Much lighter than other compressed reds I’ve had and might be better suited to western style
