Broom Tea (掃把茶, Sào Bǎ Chá, "Broom Tea") is produced by tying together large, long pu er leaves into small bundles resembling a traditional Chinese broom. These are then placed above the doorway of homes to "sweep away" negative energy from entering the home. A new one is placed each year on the Akha Women's New Year, also called the Swing Festival, which falls in late summer. It's called the Swing Festival because the village elder builds a giant wooden swing suspended by braided vines, which the villagers take turns swinging on.

This tea is harvested from ancient trees, usually from the mid-sized leaves.
