2022 420 Sheng Pu'er Bing (四月二十號生普洱茶餅, Sì Yuè Èrshí Hào Shēng Pǔ'ěr Chá Bǐng, "April 20 Sheng Pu'er Tea Cake") - This is a very special cake - not only because it was harvested on 4/20 - because it is the first large-scale spring harvest of Pu'er that we've gotten from Li Shulin since his home and tea production facilities (and tea) were destroyed in a fire in 2021.
This is a fresh Sheng Pu'er bing that has a bright, floral fragrance. It's highly stimulating and can be quite astringent if oversteeped, but when properly prepared it is sweet and refreshing. This can be accomplished either by lowering the steeping temperature to about 185 F or by using a gentle, Sheng Pu'er-specific pouring technique at full temperature (If you want detailed training on this technique, you can take our Advanced Gong Fu Cha Class).
This fresh cake is great to drink now or you can age it for a more mellow, darker-tasting tea.
