Today we’d like to share some new arrivals from our friend and partner, Tea Master Heng Yi.
For the last 20+ years, Heng Yi has picked and processed teas from wild tea plants of Mabian, Sichuan, China.
His grandfather first noticed a number of wild tea plants growing throughout their ancestral and rural homeland mountains.
Throughout his career, Heng Yi has picked and processed these plants to produce dozens of different tea variations. Of all the tea farmers we partner with, Heng Yi is one of the most innovative and experimental...
He’s consistently isolating harvests from different elevations, specific microclimates, from different “races” of tea plants, and so much more. He’s expanding his knowledge by training with tea masters of different regions to produce tea types (like red tea) which aren’t commonly seen in Mabian.
The result is a catalog of teas that represent the distinct Mabian terroir, while also showcasing his expert tea processing knowledge and expertise.
Heng Yi’s teas have been enjoyed by our Austin tea community for many years now. And we’re excited to have just received a few new Wild Sichuanese Teas this week.
- Welcoming Spring is a very early spring, high-grade, high altitude Green Tea. It’s been described by our customers as fresh, light, tender, sweet, and nutty.
- Inner Sun is a high altitude Wild White Tea. It’s been called rich and buttery, with a macadamia nut fragrance.
- Underworld Orchid is a wild Green Tea. It’s mellow, subtle, and sweet, with notes of cashew, sunflower, and a rich mouthfeel.
- Wet with Red Rain is a high elevation Red Tea (aka Black Tea in the West). This is one of Heng Yi’s personal favorites, and includes notes of cacao, red fruit, and lilac.
Hope you enjoy these.
