豬八戒 Zhū Bājiè is one of the characters from Journey to the West, which tells the story of the Monkey King helping the monk Tripitaka travel to India to retrieve Buddhist sutras. He is an anthropomorphic pig and as such is often referred to as "Pigsy" in English versions of the story. He is known for his martial prowess with a nine-toothed rake, as well as his predictably voracious appetite.
Here he is rendered in Yixing Hongni red clay as a cute, scheming pig with a flat head. He doubles as both a tea pet and a lid rest for teapot lids.
Fun tea fact: The same character makes an appearance as a shapeshifting pig named Oolong in the Dragon Ball series, which is based on the Journey to the West.
